Multi/Other Modes

There are studies that simply should not be conducted in totality online. For example, conducting a survey online about technology use or awareness that is meant to capture data for the general population will almost certainly result in data that is skewed higher for use or awareness than the results you would receive from a telephone RDD study. Does this mean none of these data can be collected online? Absolutely not, only that care must be taken to balance the results according to method. This would be a good choice for a telephone/web survey or a mail/web survey. Conducting the survey in this fashion would allow you to not only obtain general population data, it would also reveal potential key differences based on data collection method. In addition, the use of an Internet mode for at least part of the data collection could help cut down on costs for the study.

Unlike many of our competitors in the online research world, FGI is not limited to online data collection. A company offering only an online solution may try to encourage you to use that method when it's not necessarily the best fit for your study. FGI will evaluate your timeline, subject matter and research goals and make a recommendation about which method is right for you. In many cases, a multimode approach will offer the best results. Method combinations we specialize in are:

Phone/Web

This is an excellent method for a project that is being considered for conversion from phone to web. It allows you to compare your results between the methods and identify any areas where you need to make adjustments to your survey. This is also a great method if you only have email addresses for some of your customers.

Phone/Mail

This method can be used for many different kinds of projects, including telephone recruiting for a follow up interview via mail, a telephone follow up for mail studies that are experiencing poor response, or mail recruiting for a call-in interview.

Mail/Web

If telephone numbers are not available for your sample frame, or if you simply need to reduce costs significantly, a mail/web method may be the best route to take. Whether you're recruiting by mail to a follow up web study, or conducting the survey concurrently in both environments, we can deliver data seamlessly. Our internal mail processing team can handle all outgoing and incoming survey materials and ensure that your overall data are kept up to date.

Phone/Web/Mail

Sometimes you have to cast your nets far and wide to complete a study. For hard to reach sample frames, multiple data collection methods are sometimes the only way to get the job done.

Other Data Collection Modes and Methods

In Person Interviews

While the demand for in person interviews and in person focus groups is dwindling due to the availability of more efficient and timely methods, we continue to offer this method as well. We recruit via web, mail, or telephone for in person data collection.

Online Focus Groups

A cost effective alternative to traditional focus groups, online focus groups utilize message board technology, allowing a moderator to interact with participants all over the world. While you lose the advantage of being able to observe body language and facial expressions in online groups, in many cases the comments from a group are more candid because the fear of being perceived negatively by the moderator or group is removed. As the client, you can observe from the background, just as you could with an in-person group. Recruitment can come from our suite of online panels, or from your own customer list, with the whole process handled online. Because there's no need for travel, groups can be set up with very little lead time.

Mail

Our dedicated mail processing team is experienced with all aspects of postal mail data collection, including questionnaire formatting, sequencing, address validation and NCOA, shipping, response rate calculations, data entry, and data cleaning.

 Search

Because FGI has a call center and a mail processing division in addition to our online services, we'll never try to steer you towards a data collection mode that's wrong for your project needs.

Dealing with multiple vendors on a phone/web study means more time you have to spend getting your research fielded. With FGI, you only have to deal with one company.
